Hi WordPress :)

So I landed last week! Yaaaay! It’s so great to finally be done. We landed at Niagara and we had a really good time. I’ve been working for the past week. It feels SO good to be back at work. It’s a hard job, very tiring, but it’s been a really good week.

We went to see Einaudi last night! He was AMAZING. There were some issues with the sound at first, at least, to my ears. The levels were all wrong, but they sorted them out. His ensemble is so talented. If he’s doing a show near you and there are tickets left, I couldn’t recommend it more highly. He’s just such a joy to watch. He so clearly loves what he’s doing… It’s infectious, and the music is beautiful.

The second half kind of sucked for me. We were sat behind some people with absolutely no awareness of the people around them. They were checking their phones, talking, and then they just switched seats and this 6ft guy sat down right in front of me and I couldn’t see a thing. I was gutted. Truly, truly gutted. I asked them to move for the encore and they did, so I don’t think they were actually rude, just completely unaware. I’m glad that I did get to see the encore. There was another guy on his phone and I asked him to put it away during the intermission and the poor guy just had no idea how bright the light was and how distracting it was. So again, not rude, just unaware. I felt like a bit of a dick for telling people off the whole night, but they were ruining it for me.

Aside from that, it was brilliant. We had a great time.

Since I last posted here I’ve become a total Whovian. I haven’t started season 7 yet but I’ll be on it soon. In the meantime, I’m watching Torchwood. I’m not sure how much I like it yet. It’s like, so super British, even more so than Dr. Who. I think the show had a smaller budget.

Who is my favourite Doctor? I DON’T KNOW! I can’t pick. I even liked Eccleston who, according to my Facebook feed, is the least popular new Doctor.

I loved Tennant and when Smith came I was all prepared to hate him. When they changed the theme to that AWFUL theme I was prepared to hate him more. When they changed the interior of the TARDIS to that weird super lame interior with bubble windows that looks like it was designed by a preteen girl, the stakes were raised again. His fate was sealed when the light on his sonic screwdriver turned green. It was too much to handle. Too many changes all at once. But then Smith was brilliant. I couldn’t hate him. I loved him within 10 minutes. The writing was brilliant and he carried the whole thing so well. I think he’s doing a great job.

I can’t speak to the show as it is currently because I haven’t started season 7 yet but I’ll be on it next week sometime. Maybe even this weekend because it’s a long weekend (yay!).

I also watched all of the Community episodes on Netflix. I didn’t like it when I first saw it a few years ago, but it’s totally hilarious. I’ve seen a lot of shows like that – that I hated at first. The one that really stands out to me is King of the Hill. I grew up with that show, and I couldn’t bear it. I think I was just too young to get the jokes. I thought it was super depressing. Then I started it again a few years ago and it’s hilarious.

Next on the list is Orphan Black. I caught a bit of an episode the other day and I’m intrigued so I’m going to check it out.

Anyway, Happy May 24 everyone!

Hi!

I am blogging less and less. We’ve just been so busy! We’re getting so close to landing, it’s really going to be any day now, so I’m working super hard on getting everything prepped and ready. I’m giving the house a crazy deep clean, getting emergency bags packed (so we can just drive straight to the border when the COPR comes – we’re going to spend the night over the border then come back to land in the morning if it arrives during the week) applying for jobs (well, one job that I really like the look of) and all kinds of mayhem.

I’m so, so excited. I really can’t wait.

When things calm down it’ll be back to Battlestar and cosmology as usual, but until then life just has to take priority.

Seriously, so excited.

Hi WordPress! It’s been a while…

I haven’t blogged for like a week! SO what’s been going on?

Well, I did the spring clean, which was pretty sweet. It’s nice to be able to open all the windows again.

We had the first big thunderstorm of the year, and lightning struck a house! http://www.newstalk1010.com/News/localnews/blogentry.aspx?BlogEntryID=10528122 The strike was so powerful that it sent shockwaves through the neighboring houses, which is actually pretty cool.

I went shopping at the weekend and came back with nothing but a lipstick! If anyone could point me in the direction of a store that sells anything but skinny jeans it would be much appreciated.

Jays fans booed Dickey. Come on, guys, it was an ugly game, did you really need to make it uglier? Historically Dickey is a slow starter. Show some love.

This happened:

And I am so glad it did.

Margaret Thatcher died! RIP, Maggie.

We watched one of the worst Battlestar storylines to date.

SPOILERS

Season three had some real losers – the whole “black market” thing… That one where Kathryn from Desperate Housewives took hostages… Season four has seen fewer filler episodes which I like… And this wasn’t really a filler episode, but the whole thing was just so horribly lame… The one where Lee becomes president. The whole run around with the Irish lawyer, it was unequivocally stupid. We knew what was going to happen from the moment Lee suggested Zarek wouldn’t make it as president. But noooo, we had to pretend like anyone else was even a contender for the job. When the lawyer starts listing the “good traits” they’d need in a president, it was laughable. On the bright side, the scenes with Baltar, Roslin and the hybrid were just excellent. Whenever Baltar comes on the screen you know something hilarious is going to happen. He’s such a great character, and the series really benefits from his comic relief. We love Baltar in that respect.

I saw Adama with his model boat again and decided I want to make one.

I got a bunch of reading done which was really nice (I really should do more of that) and that’s about it!

Hope you all had a good weekend, too!

Chivas Regal 21 Royal Salute (Happy Landing!)

As if the day I land in Canada isn’t going to be cool enough anyway, we decided to get ourselves a little celebratory treat. This:

Cool, huh? There’s only four left for sale in the province! Now it’s just a case of not drinking it until then 😛

Pros of having a “crappy” job

I’ll be landing in Canada soon so it’s time for me to start job hunting! I decided to quit school in favor of getting married and moving to a new country (best thing I ever did) so without a degree and much previous work experience, plus three years of being unable to work or study by law, I’m going to have to take a “crappy” job.

After feeling sorry for myself for a few days, I decided to buck up and look on the bright side. To cheer myself up I wrote a list of good things about traditionally crappy jobs. I wasn’t going to post it because it was just to help myself feel better, but it really did cheer me up so I decided to share it. I guess that with a good attitude, any job can be enjoyable.

Pros of traditionally crappy jobs:
A pay check (yaaaay)
Regular breaks (union regulated so no excuses!)
A uniform (so you don’t ruin all your nice clothes)
You don’t have to make any difficult decisions
No unexpected late nights (my husband has a “proper” job and he’s done his share of not coming home until 5am)
You don’t have to eat lunch at your desk (because you probably don’t have one)
Nobody really expects much from you so you can go all Good Will Hunting and shock the crap out of everyone
You’re probably not going to be doing anything dangerous which is nice
Because you’re not as limited in options you can work anywhere you want so
You don’t need to take a job with a long commute and
You won’t have to relocate
If you’re on your feet you’ll burn a load of calories so you can eat more cake
You’re less likely to die of a stress related heart attack
The only place to go is up! (Cheesy but true)
Einstein worked in a patent office – maybe you’ll meet a super genius!
You can work in a place that has something to do with your hobby (music, books, whatever) which is pretty neat

Definitely made me feel better!

If I think of anything else I’ll update 🙂
